Zebras are commonly seen in zoos but these members of the horse family face many challenges in the wild. Of the 3 species of zebras, the International Union for Conservation of Nature lists Grevy's Zebra as "endangered", Mountain Zebra as "vulnerable" and Plains Zebra as “near threatened”. Primary dangers for zebras are: being killed for their meat or beautiful skin; habitat loss due to agriculture, forcing them to compete for resources with cattle and livestock; and drought. Zebras are native to southern & central Africa. Part of the 100 WILD ANIMALS series.
